Consider the Flow

Consider the Flow

When thinking about decorating common areas, it is important to keep in mind how one space flows into another. Keeping similar tones and finishes will help make the look and feel of your home cohesive. You want each room to be a reflection of your family and a place to enjoy yourselves and relax. An inviting home can do just that.

You can begin thinking of how to achieve this at the front door. Your entry is your guests’ first impression of you and you want it to be a good one. I like to keep my lighting fixtures and planters traditional and express my individuality through my color choices. Blues and greens are happy colors that remind me of blue skies and the ocean.

Living Room Furnishings

Next you might consider your living room. You want this to be a great place to entertain friends and family in style. You can continue to use your favorite colors and carry them through the house in touches. I love to use classic shapes in neutral linen and give pops of color with chandeliers and accessories. Ornate mirrors add some drama and elegance to the room.

Dining Room Furnishings

Your dining room is a place for the family to gather and celebrate for years. I like to keep the linen upholstery similar to that in the living room for a smooth transition. Rustic wood tables give the room a romantic and relaxed vibe, which is perfect for the way I entertain. You will want to think of the kind of parties you throw and make sure your room works with the way you celebrate. I like to add some elegance with the lighting and a rustic modern mirror to make the overall look chic.

Kitchen Furnishings

The kitchen is the hub of activity in most homes. I like to keep the furnishing sturdy but cool, so that I can relax and have fun without worrying about spilled milk and sticky fingers. I love to continue the rustic modern vibe with oversized clocks and cool lighting. The look of the seating coordinated well with these accents.

Deck

Outdoor entertaining is a must. I like my deck to have the same feel as the rest of the common areas. I carried through the color palate with these garden stools grouped for use as a coffee table. The formal but rustic feel of the sofa and chairs I selected reflect my love for traditional with a twist. I love oversized lanterns for some drama and romantic candle light.

Happy decorating!
