These chocolate cupcakes with chocolate buttercream frosting are the gold standard when it comes to cupcakes. The frosting is beyond delicious. It is the perfect chocolate flavor and melts in your mouth. The cupcakes are moist and delicious too! My children and my husband agree that these are better than bakery cupcakes. These will be a hit at any birthday or party!

For the Cupcakes:
Ingredients:
3/4 cup of flour
1/2 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
3/4 teaspoon of baking powder
1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
1/4 teaspoon of salt
2 eggs
1/2 cup of granulated sugar
1/2 cup of brown sugar
1/3 cup of vegetable oil
1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
1/2 cup of buttermilk
Instructions:
Set the oven to 350 degrees.
Line a cupcake pan with liners. I use parchment baking cups.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and salt until completely combined.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vegetable oil and vanilla until smooth.
Add half of the wet ingredients to the dry indredients and stir to combine.
Add the rest of the wet mixture and buttermilk to the dry mixture and stir until mixture is smooth.
Fill the baking cups halfway with batter.
Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
Let the cupcakes cool completely before frosting them.
For the Buttercream Frosting:
Ingredients:
1 cup of butter at room temperature
3 1/2 cups of powdered sugar
1/2 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 cup of cream
1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon of salt
1 bar of dark chocolate
Instructions:
Place the butter in the bowl of your stand mixer or use a hand mixer.
Beat the butter for three minutes until soft.
Add the powdered sugar, cocoa powder, salt, cream and vanilla.
Mix the frosting on medium for three minutes.
Use a spatula to scrape down the sides of the bowl and mix for another minute.
Use a piping bag and a No. 1A tip to frost the cupcakes.
Grate dark chocolate over the cupcakes to garnish.
